A welcoming, empathic and sentimental design.

Until recent times, we have experienced time at home as a moment of transition between one commitment and another of our day, constantly in the running; suddenly that micro-passage became an indefinite, total and daily lapse of time. It is essential, in moments like the one we have lived, and are living, to rethink our daily life and the habits to which we were linked, right or wrong. The role of design and the designer, especially linked to our inhabited space and what composes it, is crucial. We are children of fairly packaged and pre-manufactured furniture and home concepts; people tend to surround themselves with objects, elements of furniture, which tend to want to impress whoever happens to be there, and not for a deep personal pleasure. In situations such as the one we are experiencing it is instead of absolute importance to have and mold places of life perfectly suited to our measure; as Ernestina Rossotto theorises about psycho-design, the home should be like a tailor-made suit. Optimizing spaces, thinking of making our home, our space, flexible in relation to changing circumstances.

Precisely for this reason I do not believe that a new design method can be theorized, but I strongly believe that a new method of thinking can be framed, a new approach to design.

Just by asking myself what could be the keystone to deepen to help us, as designers, in this new life, an approach like that of design thinking came to my aid, a process in which the user experience is the basis of everything. in which what is desirable from a human point of view is processed with what is technologically feasible and economically sustainable. The process begins with taking action and understanding the right questions. It’s about embracing simple mindset changes and tackling problems from a new direction.

Therefore, work in multidisciplinary teams, focus and firmly determine the problem to work on, understand in detail what needs to be solved.

The point is: simplify, empathize, fluidize and build malleable and changing spaces.

Liquify.

This I believe is the heart of this rebirth.

Fluid spaces.

Beautiful, clear and functional objects.

A design that is more welcoming, towards people, empathetic and more sentimental.
